Adventure Branding, website design & logo Design for Hiking, Walking, Outdoors group
Like many Ramblers younger walkers groups the Manchester and District Walkers have been working to expand their appeal to younger walkers and their branding and website was letting them down!
A large part of their growth strategy has been based around creating a strong outdoor adventure brand identity to make the group stand out to potential members. As part of this they’ve made a deliberate attempt to establish a clear ‘brand’ for the group and to make their lead publicity vehicle – rather than more traditional adverts or leaflets.
This was one of my ‘using my skills for good’ projects. I’ve been a member of the group for a few years and it’s had such a positive impact on my life so I wanted to help the group and use my creative talents. It felt really good to ‘give back’ and create a new brand identity and pin badges that will help support the group. I also re-designed the website to match.

Across all of the pages the group attempts to project the same visual style and language; focusing on ‘happy hiking’ and that the group offers a safe, welcoming experience for members.
To underline this unified visual style the I rebranded and worked with a developer to rebuild their website – adopting a new boot logo, reviewing their websites text and making sure it’s as modern and accessible as possible. I also created a ‘3 boot’ rating system so people could easily select the right walk for them.
All of this effort has been rewarded: the group’s social media hits per day have gone from 60 to over 1000 p/day, their Facebook membership grew by 18% and they’re up to 1,500 followers on Instagram. Above all group membership has grown rapidly and they regularly get new members trialing the group out who have stated how appealing the website was and really challenged what they expected a walking group would be all about!
